Hoosier Hills Ham Club

About Us

The Hoosier Hills Ham Club Inc. is an amateur radio club serving the greater Lawrence County Indiana area since June of 1955. Our club callsign is W9QYQ with an additional vanity club callsign W9GUS. If you will be traveling through the scenic Hoosier Hills of Lawrence County please make time to visit on air and see the sights.

We offer ham radio operating events, contesting opportunities, informational/educational meetings and lots of great fun!

We sponsor the annual Hoosier Hills Hamfest each fall, one of the biggest hamfests in Indiana. See www.hoosierhillshamfest.com for more information on the hamfest.

Club Announcements/Event Calendar

April 18 2026: Fox Hunt
Join our fox hunt crew in hunting a hidden transmitter on 2 meters that can be on nearly any publicly-accessible property in Lawrence County! We meet at 3PM to hunt at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford. This is a vehicle-based hunt and the winner is determined based on lowest miles driven to the “fox”.

May 2 2026: Indiana QSO Party operating at the clubhouse:
We will be participating in the Indiana QSO party, activating Lawrence county. Operating will start around 11AM EDT, and we will operate until the end of the event at 11PM. Please contact Tim KB9SNL via email (president@w9qyq.org) to coordinate if you wish to bring equipment/help set up antennas. Bands of possible operation are 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters.

May 5 2026: Parks On The Air (POTA) Activation at Spring Mill State Park
Join us at 6pm-8pm at Spring Mill to activate the park on HF for the POTA Program as a club! Watch here for location information soon.

Repeater Features

The 146.73 repeater has the following features that are available for public use:

Current time of day: Transmit 8463 then unkey

Signal/audio test: Transmit 750, unkey and the repeater will respond with “Ready” key up again and transmit your test audio, after you unkey, the repeater will play back your last transmission.

The 224.900 repeater has the following features that are available for public use:
Current time of day: Transmit 8463, then unkey.

Signal/audio test: Transmit 750, follow the instructions the repeater transmits back to you.

NWS forecast: Dial 11, 12, or 13 to obtain the current, 2 day, or 3 day forecast from the National Weather Service

Meetings

We typically meet the 1st Tuesday of every month, at 7PM, at the HHHC Club House, 1508 Rariden Hill, Mitchell, Indiana 47446.

Monthly 2m Foxhunt (Transmitter Hunt)

HHHC hosts a monthly, vehicle-based Foxhunt on 2 meters (146.565) the 3rd Saturday of each month at 3pm. Start point is the Calvary Lutheran Church parking lot, 3705 Austin Drive, Bedford, Indiana. We go by some simple rules to determine a winner, the rules are available here:
