It's that time of the year. Saturday, July 20 is Gus Grissom Day. HHHC operates W9GUS at Spring Mill State Park. Breakfast at Denny's at 8am, set up at Spring Mill State Park Office (near the entrance gate) between 9 and 10am, operate until 2 or 3pm. Spring Mill is providing a canopy, table and chairs, and an extension cord. We provide radios, antennas, and operators. We hope to see folks come out. |
W9GUS is our special event and contest callsign that is used to honor Virgil "Gus" Grissom a native of Lawrence County Indiana, who died along with fellow astronauts Ed White and Roger Chaffee in the tragic Apollo 1 pre-launch test accident on January 27, 1967. We use this vanity call for the Gus Grissom Day Special Event station, Field Day, and other contests and on air activities that we enter as a club.
