The W9GUS callsign is our special event and contest call that is used to honor Virgil "Gus" Grissom who was from Lawrence County, and died in the tragic Apollo 1 accident on January 27, 1967. We use this vanity call for the Gus Grissom Day special event station, Field Day, and for contests that we enter as a club.
