August
Fox Hunt: Keith/Ann was/were the foxes for
this month. Four hunters showed to track down the fox.
They were Ray, KB9LGS, Mike Wright, KF9NP, Mike King, KC9JIG,
and Larry, WA9FFZ. Keith and Ann were hidden in the far
northeastern part of the county at a horse farm/club.
The roads to it were gravel and the area remote. Three
of the four hunters had trouble hearing the signal and
essentially had to drive with the initial bearings straight to
that area. Mike, KF9NP, took one hour and forty-five
minutes, Larry took one hour and fifty-five minutes and Mike
King and company took two hours. Two hours is the time
limit and this was unusual for the hunters to go right up to
the time limit. Car trouble forced Ray out of the hunt.
The mileage results were: Mike Wright, 23.5, Mike King, 30.8,
and Larry 38.6.
September
Fox Hunt: Mike, KF9NP, was the fox and hid
at Tolliver Cemetery near Georgia in the southwestern part of
the county. A good turn out of five hunters/teams showed for
this hunt on a beautiful Saturday evening. Mike always
has a good strong signal and uses a high tech Yagi to beam the
signal toward the starting point. It has so many
elements that your secretary can’t count that high.
The hunters consisted of Keith/Ann, N9KH/K9NOT, Ray KB9LGS,
Mike King, KC9JIG, and company, Brandon/Diana, KB9SNP/KB9WRX,
and Larry, WA9FFZ. Everybody received good bearings to
start with and headed south toward the Georgia Fire Tower.
This particular cemetery has been used before for the fox den.
The roads are a bit tricky and at least one Lawrence County
road map is wrong in that area. Most everyone made it in one
hour. The final miles driven were: Keith/Ann 12.9, Larry
15.6, Brandon/Diana 16.7, Mike King and group 17 and Ray 23.2.
Keith and Ann will be the fox next month on October 14, (a new
Saturday just for this October) starting time to be announced.
