November Fox Hunt: Four hunters/teams showed to track down Larry, WA9FFZ, the fox.  He was hidden on Spencer-Pike Road a mile north of Springville at the Oak Grove Church.  It was a high spot but making a choice of roads to get there proved to be a problem for two of the four hunters.  The signal was strong but the reflection of signals seems to be the norm even for nice high ground.  The Harris team, Keith, N9KH and Ann, K9NOT was the first to arrive and logged only 13.1 miles.  It took them one hour and ten minutes to arrive.  They were cautious, stopping many times to take bearings, always a smart move.  Ray, KB9LGS, was second at 18.2 miles, coming in fifteen minutes after Keith and Ann.  Mike, KF9NP, could see the fox from another road but didn’t know how to get there.  He arrived with 20.4 miles and only four minutes before the two hours expired.  Mike King, KC9JIG, and his team were in the vicinity but time ran out on them.  The Harris team has clinched a tie for first now with four wins to their credit while Larry and Mike W. have three a piece.  Keith credits his perfect record for the last two times he was a hunter to Mike, KF9NP, who mounted Keith’s Quad on his vehicle and to his XYL, Ann, who does the driving.  Keith announced that the next fox hunt will start at 3 PM on December 16.

Frank Chase, W9YJD: Your secretary received a nice email from our charter member, Frank, W9YJD.  He says he’s getting ready to tune up and get on CW with a QRP rig.  He reports everything is okay with him and the XYL at this time.  To converse with Frank always gives your secretary a trip down memory lane, for one, recalling those Morse Code classes held at Chase Chevrolet in Bedford.  Memory can be faulty here but recollections have that in the early 1950s, but perhaps a bit later.

Special Radio Club Meeting: The December 5 HHHC meeting will be for election of officers.  This is an important meeting to usher in a slate of officers for the 2007 year so everyone is encouraged to attend.  As always, the starting time will be 7 PM on that Tuesday night.
