Fox Hunt Results
Keith,
N9KH, was the fox for the May hunt. He hid
in the Judah-Logan Road area although as I look at the map I’m
unable to determine exactly where it was at despite the fact I
found the fox. There were four hunters: Mike, KF9NP, Ben,
KH1AHR, Ray, KB9LGS and Larry, WA9FFZ. Again, as is
usually the case the hunters were within 2.6 miles of each other
when they finished. Larry brought home the victory by
traveling 12.8 miles to the fox den while Ben drove 13.6 miles,
Mike drove 14.1 miles and Ray drove 15.4 miles. Keith was
parked along the creek on a level stretch of road. Smart
choices had to be made when coming to intersections in that part
of the county as is usually the case in the club’s fox hunts.
Larry will be the fox for June and the hunt will be June 17th
at 5:00 P.M. A reminder will be sent out in June for the
event.

Member Construction Projects
Mike,
KF9NP, and Ben, KH1AHR, are constructing
controllers for two meter rigs for use in an upcoming walking
fox hunt event probably held at property across from KF9NP’s
QTH. Mike tells me three controllers are finished and Ben
is working on the fourth one. Hopefully, five in all will
be completed and that will allow a walking fox hunt with five
fox boxes just as the International Competition calls for.
Each transmitter will operate for one minute sending CW signals:
MOE for xtmr #1, MOI for no. two, MOS for no. three, MOH for no.
four and MO5 for no. five.
Hal,
W8AIR, has constructed the interface device
described in the May issue of QST, page 43. He installed
it into a smaller box than the one in the article so that it
could be attached to the side of his rig with Velcro or
double-sided tape. I’ll quote Hal in his email to me
here so it’s right. “It’s a passive device that
matches the impedance and levels that come out of an MP3 device
such as an iPod to the microphone input on amateur transceivers.
Hal plans to use the device to transmit Amateur Radio Newsline
over the 73 machine in the near future. This was discussed
in our May meeting. Plans right now are to run it
Wednesday nights. Time-out on the repeater will have to be
addressed before the device can be put into operation. Hal
is hoping to iron out that problem soon. According to the
QST article this device can also be used for code practice which
is available on the Internet from ARRL.
Any
Member who is constructing something you think
would be of interest to the newsletter recipients is welcome to
submit it. Just provide me (Larry, WA9FFZ) with the
details. My email address is lhammersley@insightbb.com.
