July Fox
Hunt: Ray, KB9LGS, was
the fox for the July 21st hunt. Due to the
Boogie it was thought it best to confine the fox den
someplace south of the Boogie festivities. Ray chose a spot
along Mill Creek Road along the northern perimeter of Spring
Mill. Three hunters showed for the hunt. They were Mike
W., KF9NP, Keith and Ann, N9KH/K9NOT, and Larry, WA9FFZ.
The hunt began at 4:30 PM and all hunters detected the
signal coming from the southeast of the starting point.
Keith and Ann were the first to arrive with the lowest
mileage as well: 12.4. Larry arrived next with 13.9 miles
and Mike logged 12.8 miles. Mike and the Harris team took
roughly the same route to track down the fox. They departed
Highway 37 and diagonally took the roads leading to the fox
whereas Larry took Hancock Avenue toward the fox den, not a
diagonal route. Keith and Ann will be fox in August, a
starting time to be announced. The date is August 18th.
Club Site
Work: Johnny’s Sign
Shop was employed to use their bucket truck to take down the
ninety foot tower at the club site. It was laid over flat
and a buyer for this antenna will remove it.
Product in
August 2007 QST: Your
secretary spotted what might be an interesting product for
radio amateurs. For those of us who are plagued with weak
signals via our receiver there is a product located on page
157, upper right corner. This company has an excellent
website also mentioned in the ad. It is
www.advancedreciver.com. Of note are the preamplifiers
on their website. These neat devices, as many of you
already know, can boost weak signals significantly. The
company has available preamps ranging from 100 kHz to 1
GHZ. The one of interest to perhaps repeater users and fox
hunters is the one covering the frequency range of 144-148
MHz. The GaAsFET preamp costs $79.95 and will give a boost
of 24 dB to the signal. They require a power of 10-16 VDC
and can be mounted on an antenna mast.
PC
Projector: The club has
ordered the PC Projector for the purpose of conducting
classes and forums. The projector is on the way and will
arrive soon.
Club
Meeting: The next club
meeting will be August 7.
Apologies:
The secretary apologizes for the eleventh hour publishing of
the newsletter. He won’t bore you with details of the
lateness. He would like to know how many people on the
distribution list read the newsletter.
