Awards Banquet:
The annual radio club awards banquet was
held on February 9 in the Oak Room at Spring
Mill Inn. There were twenty members and
guests present. President Mike Wright
presented a number of certificates for those
who played a part at the Hamfest, Field Day,
and Special Events Station at the Persimmon
Festival. Also recognized were the Radio
License Class teachers and last year’s club
officers. The attractive certificates were
provided by Keith Harris. Speaking of
Keith, the Fox Hunt Top Gun Award went to
the Harris Team. They outdistanced the
field by claiming four victories in 2007.
Recipients of the four awards that are given
every year received plaques. Those awards
were as follows: New Member of the year,
Vicki Hout, KC9LKV, Member of the year, Rick
Davis, WD8JJA, Elmer, Tim Miller, K9US and
Vance Lockenour Award Marcie Davis, KC9IAI.
Storm Spotter Class:
Valerie has reported that
the Storm Spotter Class will be held
February 21 at 6:30 PM at the EMS Training
Room East beside the Health Department.
Fox Hunt:
The Harris Team was the fox and hid in the
Stonington area. With Larry suffering from
a touch of pneumonia, Mike, KF9NP, was the
only hunter. Keith said 16 miles was the
shortest distance and Mike drove 17 miles,
which was a good performance. He had a
friend from the Tunnelton area with him:
Richard Howell.
Amateur Radio License Classes:
Interest is running high with both the
Technician and General License Classes.
Both classes have met one time. The Tech
class is being held on Thursday nights and
the General class is meeting on Monday
nights. Both classes are meeting at the
clubhouse and run from 6 to 8 PM. Books are
available via the instructors at the
instructor discounts which is $18.71. class
participants are encouraged to attend the
Storm Spotters Class which is this Thursday
night.
