Newsletter - April 2006

By: Larry Hammersly, WA9FFZ, Secretary

May Foxhunt Results:  Five hunters showed to track down Mike, KF9NP, the fox.  The hunters were Keith, N9KH, Ray, KB9LGS, Tim Wray, KB9SNL, Mike Boles, KC9FHX, and Larry, WA9FFZ.  The fox was hidden at Johnny’s Junction with a slight twist, as Mike W. is always known for.  His vehicle was at the Needmore fire station while the fox box was down a dead end road near the little mall.  One hunter was heard remarking they would get even with Mike for this little trick.  All hunters found the fox box with Keith claiming the honors having driven only 13.8 miles.  Two other hunters, Tim and Larry, were less than 19 miles.  It is good to see Keith in the winner’s column.  This has been an unusual fox hunting year so far with four months in the year gone and four different winners.  No one is blowing the field of hunters away at this point.  Keith will be the fox in May and the hunt will be May 13 to avoid bumping heads with the Dayton Hamvention.  Starting time will be 5 PM.  A reminder will be sent to the fox hunter distribution list during that week.  Word has it that Keith has already selected a hiding place and it has never been used before.  Well, sounds like the hunters are in for quite a challenge.

Club Matters:  The club’s membership is on the increase with three more new members voted in during the April meeting.  They were Marcie Davis, KC9IAI, Mike Tillett, AA9ZG, and David Bartlett, N9BUB.

Many of the club members are working feverishly to get the club site ready for the grant people to visit.

Field Day will be June 24-25.  Hal and Ray are jointly spearheading this effort.

Ham classes are progressing very well with Hal and Tim Miller reporting on its progress.  Twelve students are finishing the first go around and hopefully will pass their tests.  This gives the club more prospective members.  Another class will begin soon.

Tim Wray is our hamfest chairman this year and is putting in a plea for help, one job he mentioned being gate chairman.

The forums continue to be interesting with Tim Miller, K9US, giving a forum on The Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society.  He covered all the awards that can be earned and much of the details of this interesting group including joining, QSOing these stations, and even being counted as a lighthouse QTH yourself.

The Special Events Station, K9P, will once again operate during the Persimmon Festival.
